AWARENESS CAMPAIGN FOCUSES ON CUSTOMER DUE DILIGENCE

Wednesday, February 10 - The Public Education Committee (PEC) which forms part of the National Risk Assessment Framework, has partnered with the Elmore Stoutt High School Drama Society to produce an infomercial as part of an awareness campaign to sensitise the public on Customer Due Diligence.
On behalf of the PEC, the Chairperson, Ms. Trevecca Hodge expressed gratitude to the drama society for their assistance with the infomercial, during a presentation of an all-in-one printer as a token of appreciation. She explained that the infomercial highlights customer due diligence, why it is important and the type of information that is required by institutions such as banks and insurance companies.
Drama Society Teacher Mrs. Janice George-Harris thanked the PEC for allowing the drama society the opportunity to give back to the community by doing the infomercial and expressed gratitude for the token presented.
The infomercial is currently airing on local radio and television stations.  The PEC is also preparing a complementary educational pamphlet for dissemination.    
The PEC’s responsibility is to sensitise the public on anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism and proliferation financing measures through various campaigns including the publishing of literature and producing infomercials as partnered with the drama society.
The PEC was established by the Cabinet of the Virgin Islands in April 2014 in preparation for the Virgin Islands’ mutual evaluation by the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force in 2017.  The PEC forms part of the National Risk Assessment Framework which also includes the National Risk Assessment Council and the National Risk Assessment Steering Group.
